Learn all about this powerful ingredient!
Argan oil: what is it?
Considered the treasure of the East, the argan oil is an extract taken from the Argania spinosa tree, found in Morocco. It provides a “miraculous” oil for the local population: the people of the region use the oil until today in cooking, in treatments for skin and hair.
There are different ways to extract the oil for each type of use. And, because it is a rare oil, it is very difficult to find it in its pure version. So, don’t go using the hair product on the food, ok?
The benefits of argan oil for hair
Argan oil is rich in fatty acids (oleic and linoleic), which nourishes and reconditions hair, leaving it softer and shinier. For forming a protective film around the strand, the oil prevents frizz on humid days.
It has yet high vitamin E concentration, which acts as antioxidant and prevents precocious ageing of the strands because of the action of the iron, dryer, sun, sea and pollution.
For having a light texture, the product can still be used daily and brings benefits for smooth, curly and even colored strands.
How to use argan oil on hair?
Don’t know how to use the powerful ingredient in favor of your hair? Know that there are different ways to use argan oil on your hair. Choose the benefit and invest in the specific treatment!
1) Pre-shampoo with argan oil
The technique, also known as pre-poo, avoids the drying of the strands because of the shampoo.
How to do: before washing the hair, apply the oil for the whole length and massage the wicks. Wait an hour and then wash normally. The technique is perfect for those with dry hair.
2) Argan oil wetting
A technique widely used by women with curly and curly strands, wetting consists of using vegetable oils, such as argan, to hydrate and nourish the strands. Besides being softer and shinier, the treatment still gives shape and defines the curls.
How to do: wash the strands with shampoo and remove excess water. On the humid strands, apply the oil only on the length, massaging wick by wick from top to bottom. You can sleep with the product on the strands (just don’t forget to use a bath cap to not dirty the pillow!) or rinse the hair after twenty minutes.
Use the conditioner afterwards to close the cuticles (the outermost layer of the strands) and make sure that the nutrients remain and do not go away down the drain.
3) Hydration with argan oil
Adding argan oil to hydration will only add benefits, such as leaving the strands armored from moisture and without frizz.
How to do: mix a few drops of oil in your mask and apply on the length of the strands, glossing lock by lock. Let it act according to the determined time on the mask label and rinse.
4) Finisher with argan oil
It is a finisher that does not leave the strands heavy and gives instant shine, besides preventing double ends. It is also perfect to apply after the brush, to protect the strands from humidity.
How to do: apply a few drops of argan oil on the palm of your hand, rub one hand on the other to warm it up and pass on the length of the strands.
5) Dye with argan oil
For those who are afraid of getting dry strands after coloring, argan oil is a good trick to minimize dye damage.
How to do: mix three drops in the coloring paste before applying it to the strands. It’s that simple!
Can you use argan oil before the coloring?
No. This is quite dangerous because the oil, when in contact with the heat of the flat iron, can “fry” the hair, damaging – and a lot! – the hair fiber. Include the argan in your care routine in other ways, as suggested above.
